I don't think this is true because even though this type of orchid is sensitive to the quality of the air, it cannot absorb or neutralize the smell of smoke.

I'm sorry, but you're misinterpreting how this plant helps freshen a room. There is no evidence that it explicitly removes the smell of smoke, but it's excellent at freshening.
